About Nestor
FoU-center
Nestor FoU-center is a multidisciplinary research and development centre
with the focus on health and welfare of the elderly. The centre was established
in 2003, and is financed by five municipalities (Haninge, Nynäshamn, Södertälje,
Tyresö and Värmdö) and the Stockholm county council (Stockholms Läns Landsting).
Nestor FoU-center is located in Haninge in the capital region of Sweden.
Our objectives
- To improve the quality of care for the elderly and thereby improve the quality of life for the elderly and their relatives.
- To enhance the competence of staff working with care of the elderly.
- To disseminate research and development findings about the welfare of the elderly.
Most of the projects have a local perspective, targeting our owner organisations, but we also cooperate
with national administration, other R&D centres, universities and NGOs. Topics include the prevention
of falling, dementia, nutrition and meals, rehabilitation, medicine reviews, social activities, and
the demand and supply of care and support services.
Four focus areas
Research: All our projcets are closely related to practice, which brings good
opportunities and ideas for research on the organisation of health and social care.
Development: Projects with the aim to improve and develop organisations, routines
and perspectives through systematic measures, tutoring and methodological support.
Education: Skills development for health and social care staff, both as targeted
courses at college and secondary school level, and as part of development projects.
Dissemination: Ideas, methods and knowledge are disseminated through publications,
seminars, conferences, etc.
Building bridges
Everything we do should be useful in practice. Local ideas on development are captured
through regular contacts with the heads of units, the staff, the elderly and their relatives.
This is facilitated through an executive committee (styrgrupp), an advisory committee
(FoU-råd) and a committe representing the elderly and their relatives (seniorråd). These
committees should draw attention to challenges or areas for improvement and make proposals
for future activities at Nestor FoU-center.
